Elizabeth Coleman
Casting and Molding Ceramics
Elizabeth Coleman will demonstrate techniques for slip-casting and
press-molding ceramic forms. Elizabeth received her MFA in
ceramics from Ohio State University and her BFA in ceramics and
glass from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She is a
2010 Jerome Ceramic Artist Project Grant recipient and a Northern
Clay Center studio artist, where she creates monumental relief
carvings. Coleman is also the NCC sales gallery coordinator.
David Swenson
Wheel-thrown Ceramics
David Swenson will demonstrate how to throw a variety of ceramic
forms on the wheel. Swenson received his BFA from New York State
College of Ceramics at Alfred University and was a ceramic intern
with David Fredrickson in 2008. He recently relocated to the Twin
Cities and received a 2009 Fogelberg Studio Fellowship. Swenson
teaches children's and adult classes at Northern Clay Center, and
also serves as the building engineer.
1-2 pm: Joel Froehle
Hand-building Ceramic Vessels
Joel Froehle will demonstrate the creation of hand-built vessels
formed by means of solid construction and subtractive methods.
Froehle recently completed his MFA at the University of Massachusetts,
Dartmouth. He was the studio lab assistant for ceramics at Inver
Hills Community College and a program assistant at Northern Clay
Center prior to graduate school. Froehle is currently an instructor of
drawing and sculpture at Inver Hills Community College.
Peter Jadoonath
Lid-Making Techniques
Peter Jadoonath will demonstrate a variety of techniques for making
lids for clay vessels. Jadoonath received his BFA in painting and
ceramics from Bemidji State University. He is the recipient of a
2007 Jerome Ceramic Artist Project Grant and a 2009 Red Wing
Collectors Society Foundation Aw ard. Jadoonath has taught
ceramics at Bemidji State University and Fired Up studios in
Minneapolis, and was previously on staff at Custom Ceramics and
North Prairie Tile. He is co-owner of Toppot Clay Studio, a member
of Back Alley Gallery in St. Paul and the studio technician for Fired
Up studios.
